A Very Successful March Second Book Sale

The rains continued but on Saturday March 2nd, the Friends of the RB Library held a Bag Sale to help us all “Bounce Over to March Madness.”   The sale hours were 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. and we made $680, one of our top sales events.

As one volunteer put it, “The savings [were] in the bag.”  FOL members paid $3 for a full brown grocery bag or a comparably sized bag or box.  Non-members paid $5 for such a bag or box. We achieved our goals:

  • Raised money for the library programs and materials
  • Reduced the inventory of donations
  • Made some new friends (through memberships)
  • And renewed friendships with old and new members

A work crew of 25 or more persons helped with the event by:

  • Doing the set-up on Friday afternoon, March 1st
  • Assisting on the sale day in two shifts (9:30 – 12:30 and 12:30 – 3:30)
  • Managing the teardown from 3:30 – 4:30 and
  • Restoring order to both shop and workroom in the days following

The library staff was spectacular.  They helped with all phases of the sale and thanked us profusely for our efforts to support their programs. They also enjoyed having more traffic on a rainy day.  We had sales going on in the bookshop, in the area outside of the shop, in the upstairs hallway, and in the workroom.  Plus we had cashiers and greeters in the lobby.  There were many smiles.

Dates for the three remaining Bag Sales are all on Saturdays:

June 8th
September 7th
December 14th

In the case of good books, the point is not how many of them you can get through, but rather how many can get through to you.
