SDPA Jazz Ensemble

Outstanding SCPA Jazz Ensemble

3 PM, Saturday, October 13th

San Diego’s School of the Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA) offers a full range of Jazz performance ensembles, including 2 big bands (high school) and small ensembles (high school and middle school). Instruments in the ensembles include saxophone, trumpet, trombone, drum set, bass, guitar and piano. The Ellington Jazz Ensemble, featured in October’s Discovery Concert Series program, is an audition-based group and is the flagship ensemble of the SCPA Jazz department. This ensemble will travel extensively during the school year to participate in music festivals, outreach events and shared concerts with local universities.

Students from the SCPA Jazz program have been accepted to and received scholarships from prestigious Jazz institutions including the Juilliard School, Berklee School of Music, The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, Manhattan School of Music, Cornish College of the Arts, University of Southern California and many others. Under the direction of Dr. John Reynolds, the SCPA Ellington Jazz Ensemble has appeared at the Reno Jazz Festival, the Essentially Ellington festival, and was the opening band for the 2016-2017 Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.
